As the new Executive Director for the Fairborn Area Chamber of Commerce let me introduce myself to you! My name is Tom Kirsch and I am excited to serve in this capacity on behalf of you and our shared interest in the successes of our business community.
I was born in Xenia, Ohio and raised in Fairborn! My father was civil service at WPAFB and my mother worked in the cafeteria at MHC. Growing up, I attended Mary Help of Christians School here in town and Carroll High School in Dayton. I had the best of both worlds having friends here in town and the surrounding area. I played Little League, was involved in scouting, cutting lawns, newspaper routes and playing hard! My first job was being hired by Norm Foy to work in his Foy’s 5 and 10 in the early 1970’s! I attended college out of high school at Wright State University and after two years transferred to Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff for my BSEd. I married my wife, also raised in Fairborn, Wendi Williams Kirsch in 1979. We both taught school in Arizona for nine years and while there I received my MEd at Arizona State University. Then, in 1988, we returned to Fairborn with our two children Matt and Katie. Wendi and I both continued our teaching careers with me retiring in 2021 after 42 years in the classroom. But that wasn’t my only occupation. I had my own year-round painting (and other) business for 25+ years working after school, weekends and summers to supplement our income. The business started as two teachers and quickly became a corporation with multiple employees, then downsized to a partnership and then ended with me in a sole proprietorship until 2014. My involvement with the community over the years has included coaching my son in Little League and Babe Ruth; Lions Club of Fairborn; Rotary International of Fairborn and this Chamber where I have also served as an ambassador. I have also served on various city levy campaigns and was heavily involved in school related activities serving as science department chair, senior class co-advisor with my wife and coached cross country and track and field for a time.
I look forward with great anticipation to engaging with our business community here in Fairborn. Our common themes of business success and its ability to thrive will be paramount on my agenda going forward. I am here to encourage you and to advocate for you in any capacity that meets your needs and growth!
Please know that my door is always open, and my calendar has dates for you!
